Chris Lloyd & Barbara Lucas have 4 children – 3 are living in New Zealand and one is currently in London. Three grandchildren are near Auckland and a fourth, the youngest in London.
Chris, born in Zimbabwe, came to New Zealand in 1961. He was an officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy until 1978, then a businessman and farmer until semi-retiring in 2000 when he started to design and develop websites.
Barbara, a 5th generation New Zealander, was raised in Rotorua and Wellington. Barbara is one of the management team for the Horowhenua Library Trust.
Our interests are fine food & wine, travelling, music, photography, reading, gardening and genealogy.
He and Barbara have published the subscription newsletter ‘the Business of B & B’ since the beginning of 2004.
‘The Business of B & B’ is a newsletter, directory and list of resources for the operators of Bed and Breakfast Inns around the world.
The original newsletter was a subscription only publication of 7 issues per year, published approximately every 6 weeks with a 10 to 12 week gap in the New Zealand winter. It was started in 1992 and originally published by Carol Glen. We subscribed for a number of years and when Carol decided to stop publishing in late 2003, we made an offer for the business to keep the resource available for Bed and Breakfasts in New Zealand and Australia.
Since then we have developed the newsletter into a mixture of paper and electronic publishing, but have now decided to publish only as an electronic version available to all through this blog. We are also developing an international directory for all subscribers to promote their properties – at very low cost – our way of recognising the support of so many subscribers over the years especially as we are well aware of the high cost of promotion.
